Deploying mobile communications as a peace-building tool.

Populist teamed up with Sisi Ni Amani to drive subscriptions to their violence prevention mobile platform, and design influential and replicable SMS content.

Sisi Ni Amani is deploying mobile communications as a violence prevention and intervention tool across Kenya, sending targeted SMS to specific groups at risk of enabling, inciting or executing violence. With the ability to instantly and directly connect with specific population groups, the organization is influencing the typical trajectories of violence.

Through on-the-ground immersive research, Populist developed a mobile subscription strategy for the platform to drive uptake of the service in key geographies and among specific populations. Populist also worked with the organization to design an SMS content development process, supporting the deployment of millions of text messages to influence violence-related behaviors.

Working with Populist was an eye opening experience. We learned how to develop a scalable brand advocacy strategy that we could use in new local communities. Our collaboration with Populist also helped us to maximize the impact of our SMS communications based on an understanding of what motivated our audience groups’ behaviors.
